The North Carolina State Fair is here Oct 11-21 2012!!
The NC State Fair is held at the State Fairgrounds in Raleigh at the intersection of Hillsborough Street and Blue Ridge Road. The fair is open from 8am-midnight, the Midway is open at 10am. The admission is $8.00 at the gate and $6 in advance for adults and $3 and $2 in advance for kids 6-12. That’s the easy money once you’re inside, now that’s when the real spending starts!
Fried anything on a stick, I shudder to think what this years delacie will be!
There is a ton of stuff to see and you will walk miles and miles, we’ve been a couple of times when it rained and you know it was still a lot of fun, less lines, less crowds! I love the farm animals and it’s great to see the 4-H students taking an active role in showing off their charges, they are really proud of their sheep or cows or whatever it is they have at the show.
Agriculture plays a major role in the economy of North Carolina and in areas around Raleigh and other cities there is a drive to get people to buy local produce of which there is plenty. There is a growing number of organic farms and specialty niche farms cropping up around Johnston County where we live. It is no wonder then that attendance at the NC State Fair in 2010 and 2011 topped 1 million people.
So apart from all the animals on display and the judging for them and the massive pumpkins, squash, tomato, etc. There are the rides (be afraid be very afraid), the guess your weight folks, the ring throwing balloon shooting gigantic stuffed animal winning stall. There is the often overlooked, contests for wines, pies, jams, cakes, you name it, if it can be thrown together in a kitchen there is a contest for it.
Then there are the shows, the Tractor Pull $10, Demo Derby, King Action Sports Stunt Riders, the concerts, Scotty McCreery ( sorry sold out!) there are more. There is the Kiddie Land Funpark, Fireworks, Folk Festivals and lots more.
