Coke is Coming To Clayton, North Carolina, and I'd Like To Buy The World A Coke!
Coca-Cola the blue chip soft drink maker is moving its operations from Raleigh to Clayton. Coca Cola Bottling Co. Consolidated announced it was opening a new sales and distribution center in Clayton.
The former plant in Raleigh has been operating since 1957 and was not large enough or modern enough to deal with the tremendous growth the company has seen. The new facility on Shotwell Road in Clayton, site of the former Winn-Dixie distribution center is 233,000 square feet, more than double the current plant.
The 184 employees currently employed will transfer to the new facility and while no new jobs are expected it is a tremendous boost to the general economy and perception of Clayton. The Charlotte based company is the nations largest independent Coca-Cola bottler with 2,800 employees in North Carolina.
The company will invest a substantial amount to up-fit and renovate the facility and should be open in May.
Again we see a large company taking the opportunity to locate in Clayton, NC to join the ranks of Caterpillar, Novo Nordisk, Talecris, Northeast Foods, it is a testament to what Clayton has to offer.
Good government, access to major highways, I95, I40, Hwy 70 Bypass, 440 and soon enough the 540 bypass will skirt Clayton. Affordable housing, Business Week magazine named 27527 as the top ten best zip code in America for affordable housing and great schools. Proximity to Raleigh the state capital, the beach, the mountains.
It will be interesting to see who else might be coming!!
