Downtown Clayton Gained Eight New Businesses Last Year!
I read this and was amazed that Downtown Clayton has added so many new businesses to it's downtown, not because it's not a great downtown just that you would expect stores to be cautious etc with the economy. They did lose four businesses last year June 09 to June 10
The Downtown area has the help of the Clayton Downtown Development Association and any small town like Clayton needs all the help it can get. It is inevitable that as a town like Clayton grows, it grows out wards and the commercial and retail that follows needs lots of land and so builds away from the Downtown area. It order to maintain the character and viability of the downtown area takes a lot of work and commitment on behalf of the town, the Downtown businesses and the residents.
America is full of towns that have been neglected for the big box stores and struggle to keep alive. The Town of Clayton appears to have been aware of this in their planning and investment in the Downtown Clayton Area and the result is more business opening up. It will be up to the local residents to support these businesses, but there is no free ride these new businesses, a restaurant, three hair salons, a dance studio, and a batting practice complex will all have to compete for every customer that walks in the door.
Downtown Clayton has all the makings of a great place to shop, stroll, dare I say live! The harvest festival will be along soon, the Farmers Market on Saturdays until October, the downtown music festivals all create a great buzz.
I wish them luck!
