The Greek Festival in Raleigh was just one of a ton of things going on this weekend in the Triangle. The Annual Greek Festival is put on by Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church every year and this was the 31st one. We have always heard about the amazing food ( I suspect that is why most people go!) and never managed to get there until this past Sunday.
I always love finding out about other cultures and this is a great chance to experience some Greek food, music and dance. There is a full menu of food to sample, from Lamb Shanks to Gyros, Moussaka, Spanakopita. There is a whole range of Greek desserts and coffee also.
While you eat there is a stage with dancers in traditional costume dancing local dances to accompanied by Greek musicians. There is also an area to buy jewellery etc.The Greek Festival in Raleigh is held at the Expo Center at the NC State Fairgrounds, look for it next year.
Apart from the Greek Festival, there was much more to see and do in the Triangle. There was of course the Flea Market which is also at the NC State Fairgrounds and this is held every weekend, as the name implies, there is all kinds of stuff. Also on Saturday in Raleigh if you’re into bugs 9 which included eating them) was BUGFEST at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences. In Durham for the nerds and geeks you had the inaugural Escapist Expo hosted by the online magazine The Escapist. For the budding farmers there was the Eastern Triangle Farm Tour hosted by the Carolina Farm Stewardship Association, lots of organic and sustainable farms to check out, a growing trend in this area is “Eat Local”
