Big VIP Event At Portofino To Open The Club House.

We had our grand opening of the Club House on Thursday at Portofino Equestrian Community. It was a huge success with lots of big names in Real Estate and Community Leaders.

The evening started with Moonshine Martinis at The Red Roof Inn, then we had trolleys ferry folks through the stables and around the pond and on to the Club House.

We had  Italian themed food set up at the Piazza overlooking the pool. It was great to see so many people enjoy the beauty of Portofino and the response we received was beyond our expectations.

We were also able to use the event to tell everyone about our awards we won at the Annual NCHBA Stars Awards.

It was great to see the reaction from people as they heard about the four hundred acres and seven miles of trails and the biggest deal for most people was the fact that Clayton is so close to  Downtown Raleigh, Research Triangle Park, Raleigh Durham International Airport.

Time for Some New Shoes...The Farrier Comes to Portofino Equestrian Community

One of the amazing things about being around horses is when the Farrier comes out to replace their shoes. Farriers play a vital role in the health and comfort of horses the world over and their knowledge of that relativly small piece of the horse comes from years of experience and skills handed down over time.

The Farrier is as vital to the well being of the horse as the Vet and the Trainer. The hoof of horses can take a beating and under the right conditions a multitude of problems can arise. The Farrier is there not just to put shoes on but also to advise and correct the hoof in order to prevent lameness.

The first time you see a Farrier cut the hoof down or pinch a wedge out or put a red hot shoe on a hoof is a sight to see. You realize the horse does not feel it, when he nails the show on the hoof most horses don't even blink.

Larry came out to Portofino Equestrian Community on Friday to put some shoes on Twister and treat Red for a hoof ailment. Farriers have a knack for talking and working, keeping the horse calm is I'm sure part of the plan. They work fast and deliberate and when you see how they put themselves under a massive horse, it is wise to work fast, trust me I have seen them get nailed!

The dogs at the yard I worked at in Ireland loved the hoof scraps for chewing, just thought I'd share that with you! One of the great things about living in Portofino is days like these when the kids can learn about taking care of the horses.
