OK so we are all aware that a kid named Scotty McCreery won American Idol and put his home town of Garner, North Carolina on the map, right?
Well we as Real Estate agents who have an office in Garner, Coldwell Banker Howard Perry & Walston and work in the Garner market thought it would be a good idea to organise a little tour of some of the attractions that Garner has to offer. So when we get an onslaught of people who are moving to Garner we will be ready for them.
We had about twenty agents from the office go on the Garner Points of Interest Tour today and we started at the Town Hall and Library. Important places If you need to get planning permission or if there is a new subdivision planned or a commercial enterprise is opening, this is where you will go for that information. The library was slated to be closed in the recent budget cutbacks, however the citizens of Garner put up such a fight the county backed down, this is a recurring trend with the Town of Garner,there is a real sense of community!
Next up the Garner Historic Auditorium, Main Street, Garner Recreation Park, Garner Senior Center.
The White Oak Shopping Center and the Regal Cinemas Stadium 14 with all the fine restaurants choices over there including a new Char-Grill!!
The White Oak Medical Offices, Rex  Hospital has a state of the art wellness center there and this is where you will find the White Oak Apartments at Abberly Place which offers short term rentals, good to know if you sell your house before you find your home in Garner. If you are relocating to Garner and want to take your time looking at different subdivisions and schools in Garner this might be a good spot to check out.
The Garner Chamber of Commerce was next where we sat on the most luxurious chairs worth $200 each!!! The Chamber folks have been fielding a lot of questions lately about “where does he live?” “Where is the Lowes Foods he worked at?”
They are also excited about the new companies moving to the area and providing much needed jobs, there will be a ground breaking ceremony shortly. It seemed to me they were keeping something from us ( sworn to secrecy), but to me they were hinting there would be another announcement shortly... I hope so.
From there it was off to the Centennial Park, The Water Treatment Plant ( Jackies Idea!) Lake Benson Park and Boat House. This is a beautiful park and lake with walking trails boats for hire fishing piers. they have a number of picnic areas with permanent grills for large cook outs, family reunions etc. They also have a concert on July 3rd with the Symphony and fireworks, now that ,I am told is awesome! This is also the park where all American Idol winners have their Homecoming Concert...... so long as they live in Garner!
White Deer Park also a beautiful 96 acre park with playgrounds etc. then it was on to the Grand Marquise Ballroom a beautiful facility for weddings etc.

Garner, NC has Scotty Fever!



The town of Garner, North Carolina is in a tizzy today as they prepare to welcome home Scotty Mc Creery, the American Idol finalist who flew into town last night.

Garner is located just outside Raleigh, NC. Scotty’s appearance’s on American Idol generates a lot of discussion around the water coolers. My fellow agent Jackie Brown, knows him and his Mom. The town of Garner is putting on a parade and concert this afternoon to welcome their hometown hero.

I should point out that I have never seen American Idol in it’s entirety and have only heard Scotty once!!!

The parade and concert at Lake Benson Park starts at 2pm.The town is expecting 30,000 fans to come and see Scotty perform. After the concert Scotty heads to the NC State Baseball Game where he will throw in the first pitch. It’s amazing to see a high school student be transformed into a huge star in a matter of weeks.
Garner ,NC is probably going to get as much out of this as possible.

American Idol Contestant Scotty McCreery is Putting Garner, NC On The Map!

I have never watched American Idol, WHAT!!! It's true I have never sat through an American Idol episode, I'd rather eat nails! But I am aware of this Garner, NC native Scotty McCreery who is thrilling the whole of North Carolina with his singing on the show. He is well know in my office Coldwell Banker Howard Perry & Walston in Garner in fact Jackie Brown one of our top Agents knows him personally as his mom is a Realtor.

This was planted outside our office this week, it's interesting that the Town of Garner appears to have waived their sign ordinances for Scotty. My sign would not have lasted this long. So people are now coming to Garner to see where Scotty McCreery comes from, his school, etc. There was a girl here the other day who got off I95 on her way to Florida to check out the town.

When I lived in Dublin I met a number of foreigners who were on a Bono pilgrimige who would find his house, (not easy) and hang out hoping to catch a glimpse of the star. It could be Scotty may need a fence and security for a while.

I wonder if he makes it to the end will I have to watch a full episode? Now that I'm an American Idol expert haven't there been a couple of other NC natives win on the show?

"The Seed Lady" Anne Hudson at Hudsons Hardware in Garner.

Anna Hudson has been working at Hudson's Hardware store for over fifty years and let me tell you she knows her seeds.

Ms. Anna has an area in the store where she takes the seeds from local supplier Wyatt-Quarles and measures them out to 1/4pound, 1/2 pound whatever size you need. She has every type of seed grown locally you could imagine and not only that she knows how to grow them and is more than happy to offer advise on planting, soil fertilizer, quantity etc.

I have a tendency to kill any vegetables I grow and I learned more from Ms Hudson about growing veggies than any book I've read. She is a treasure trove of information and is not going to sell you something if the time is not right, today I was looking at yellow squash and she said "wait till the 15th!".

So I have my potatoes in, onions, sweet peas, lettuce, broccoli carrots....lets see with the expert helping me, if I can get something to eat this year.
