This is an indication of two forces currently in play in the real estate market in the Greater Raleigh Area. The first is that the real estate market is definitely heating up, homes are selling at a much faster rate than we’ve seen in years and in some cases we are seeing multiple offers on homes. The other is the growing 55 Plus housing market, which is only in it’s infancy in Raleigh and surrounding towns.

Seniors Move to Raleigh for the Weather and...

The Greater Raleigh Area has long been a place that people moved to for all kinds of reasons, weather, jobs, college, and these are some of the reasons driving the need for communities whether you call them 55 Plus, 55 and Better, Active Adult today. What do retirees, seniors look for in homes and why is Raleigh a good place for seniors to live. Well the weather is a good starting point, it’s pretty mild all year round in Raleigh in fact most of North Carolina has a nice climate. Summers are hot sure, but winters are mild and sandwiched between a glorious Fall and beautiful Spring so there are months and months of beautiful mild weather to enjoy the outdoors.

Healthcare for Seniors Moving to Raleigh is a top priority

In Raleigh and surrounding towns and cities like Garner, Clayton, Durham, Chapel Hill you have access to some of the best health care facilities in the country, Duke University Medical Center, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Rex HealthCare, WakeMed are just a few of the many health care facilities in the region and all of these major hospitals are opening smaller specialty clinics and hospitals so seniors along with everyone else will not have far to drive. Access to good healthcare is a major concern for today's seniors and the ability to maintain independence is why homes like this one at 264 Shady Hollow Lane in The Village of Aversboro a 55 Plus community in Garner are selling quickly. A short drive from the house is the brand new WakeMed Garner Healthplex scheduled to open this year, the Rex Wellness Center of Garner where some residents of The Village of Aversboro already participate in aquatics and wellness classes is 3 miles away.

What is there to do for retirees in Raleigh?

Seniors moving to Raleigh and the surrounding areas are not be at a loss for something to do, whether it be indoors or outdoors, a short drive to a museum or two hours to the beach. There are great museums and concert halls, golf courses and walking trails. Of course in most 55 plus communities in Raleigh there are plenty of amenities, organised activities, groups and clubs to join. Carolina Preserve in Cary offers an indoor and outdoor pool, Bocce, state of the art fitness center, all included in your HOA dues. Heritage Pines has tennis, pools, billiards, aerobics, arts and craft studio. The Village at Aversboro has a community center, sidewalks and low HOA dues and what a lot of the 55 and over group want ...maintenance free living, no lawn and yard work is a big plus for folks moving to an active adult community. There are a limited number of options in the 55 Plus home market in Raleigh and the surrounding areas, more are coming but as the market is turning they are selling quickly.

David this is great information - and timely with so many grandparents coming to Garner and Clayton NC to visit, and thinking maybe they would like to live closer.  We've had whole families move here!
